Welcome to Log-EQF Version 7! April, 1995
------------------------------ -----------
If you already typed "INSTALL", then hit <Esc> when you've finished browsing
this README.DOC text. The INSTALL program will prepare your target disk;
just follow the prompts.
NOTE TO USERS OF THE BUCKMASTER CD-ROM, APRIL 95 RELEASE:
--------------------------------------------------------
The BuckMaster HAMCALL CD-ROM changed formats with the April '95 release.
A TSR called BuckTSR has been included with Log-EQF, to interface with the
new CD-ROM format. Start BuckTSR before running Log-EQF - if you use INSTALL
a batch file called LOG.BAT will do this for you. One added bonus: if you
name the TRACK field to be "GRID", the grid square locator will be entered
into your log every time you access BuckMaster! We'll add more features in
the near future.
NOTE TO USERS UPGRADING FROM PRIOR VERSIONS OF LOG-EQF:
------------------------------------------------------
If you used the DX-EQF utility with the "old" Log-EQF, you can either
convert your existing DXCC records into the new format by typing
"DXC-EQF", or you can run the new DX-EQF and perform an AUTO UPDATE...
DXC-EQF will not be able to convert 100% of your old DXCC records, due
to the required changes to the prefix library, and flaws in the former
DX-EQF system.
Especially if you didn't use the "ARRL CHECKED" function in the earlier
versions of DX-EQF, I would suggest skipping DXC-EQF, and instead use
the new DX-EQF AUTO UPDATE control to recreate your DXCC records.
Good luck & 73! Tom - N3EQF
---------------------- NEW FEATURES IN LOG-EQF VERSION 7 -------------------
1). DX-EQF now reports all bands and modes for a given DXCC country, on a
grid at the bottom of the logging screen. DX-EQF is also completely
rewritten and includes a new user interface, complete with mouse
control.
2). A Worked All States record keeper is now provided, called WAS-EQF. This
new utility provides on-line reporting just like the new DX-EQF above.
3). The Log-EQF SETUP MENU is now expanded to permit additional parameters
for user customization. The new setups include additional screen color
control, a screen blanker, capitalization rules, WAS and DXCC reporting
rules, and much more. You can optionally start the SETUP utility by
typing "SET-EQF" from DOS, without actually starting Log-EQF.
4). A SECOND RIG can now be controlled from Log-EQF. This second rig can
be on the same or different COM port than the first rig, and can also
include a VFO "OFFSET" parameter for use with transverters.
5). SEARCH can now accept up to four log fields, and can also do a SEARCH
AND REPLACE across the entire logbook. You can also limit a search
between two dates.
6). New single-line print and view formats are available during the SEARCH,
so that if you search for TRACK or INFO (or whatever you renamed these
fields to be) as the first search field, Log-EQF will show this field
on the print format.
7). The TNC now can utilize XOFF/XON handshaking or "software flow control".
This is controlled by the <Alt> key on the TNC terminal screen. With
this "XFLOW" control "ON", and your TNC's "XFLOW ON" command set, you
can leave Log-EQF and then return and you'll find your TNC will output
as much information as it could hold to Log-EQF's screen! It depends
on how much memory your TNC has, but you'll find this helpful if you
monitor the PacketCluster alot.
8). If you set any callsigns in the PacketCluster "HIT LIST" (<F2> key on
the PacketCluster screen), you'll now see a window open on the logging
screen anytime a DX spot occurs for that call. When the window is
present, hitting <F11> will set you on that DX spot instantly.
9). When you pounce on a PacketCluster spot now, either saving or clearing
that station on the logging screen will give you the chance to QSY back
to the frequency and mode before the spot was worked.
10). A new file called BANDPLAN.DAT provides both MODE and COMMENTs for any
range of frequencies you provide. I have this file setup for U.S.
frequency allocations vs. license class; but you can customize the
file to suit your operation. The COMMENT will be displayed on the
logging screen, if you select this option on Log-EQF's setup screen.
The MODE can be used to set your rig (or just set the mode in the log
field) according to the present frequency. This MODE value is also used
by the PacketCluster to decide what mode will be set for a given
frequency spot.
11). CW MEMORY KEYER memories are now 50 characters long instead of 25. The
character buffer was also greatly expanded to avoid missing characters.
12). The keyer memories can now be activated from your computer keyboard's
numeric keypad. Just turn on this option from the SETUP menu, and
turn on your <Num Lock> key, and when you hit number keys 1 thru 6
you'll be sending memories 1 thru 6.
13). You can now print a custom "mailing" label from the logging screen.
Just hit <Alt-L>, type the info you want to print into the label
window, and hit <F1> to print it.
14). New label format added: 3.5" x 15/16", 2-across.
15). The MAIN MENU now can be used with a single key. Look for the letter
that's highlighted for each menu item; hit that letter and you're there!
16). You can now have your own "master database" of callsigns, to be checked
by Log-EQF each time you enter a call on the logging screen. Just create
a standard Log-EQF logbook called MASTER.LOG, and put it in the same
directory as the program!
17). If you don't use the <F7>, <F9>, or <F10> MACRO keys on the TERMINAL
screen, the SHELL, PacketCluster, or Rig-EQF/Mem-EQF features will be
automaticlly assigned to these keys! Just delete 7.KEY, 9.KEY, or
10.KEY disk files to enable these funcions on the TERMINAL screen.
